PSEO offers high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take courses at eligible post-secondary institutions. Students must meet the admissions requirements of the post-secondary institution, but do not pay for tuition, fees, or books.

Students interested in taking PSEO courses at South Central or other colleges and universities must work with the counseling office prior to registration; many schools have deadlines as early as the beginning of April. No more than four PSEO classes–generally only an option senior year-may be taken in a semester and only with counselor and principal approval. Students taking PSEO classes will have a scheduled study hall for each PSEO class. PSEO classes count as elective credits for graduation purposes. Generally speaking, PSEO classes should be chosen to take advantage of elective courses not offered at BA.

PSEO can be a great opportunity for students. The structure and set-up of PSEO is different from high school and may not be a good fit for everyone. As you explore PSEO options, consider these questions:

  1. Do you typically earn good grades? (We recommend students have a 3.0 or better GPA.)
  2. Do you regularly complete assignments on time?
  3. Do you regularly check your school email? (College instructors will communicate more often through email and/or messaging available in the learning management system, such as Canvas.)
  4. For a course taught asynchronously online, do you have the self-direction, organization and follow-through to complete tasks according to the course schedule?
  5. For a course with in-person attendance requirements, do you have access to transportation to get to the college campus and back?
  6. Are you comfortable with asking the instructor questions in-person or through email?
  7. Are you able to follow multi-step directions?
  8. Are your parents okay with not having access to your in-progress course grades?
  9. Are you and your parents aware of potential consequences of not doing well in PSEO?

Please be aware that every college and university has different rules regarding the transfer of credits earned in college-level classes taken in high school. Please consult with our school counselor and/or your desired post-secondary institution for details. Students may switch the sequencing of required classes (where academically appropriate) to take advantage of BA’s college level options.
